Never trust a NSW Coalition government to execute a procurement contract for ferries, light rail sets or regional intercity train sets again!
Past NSW Coalition Govts failed to correctly specify even basic things, for example:
- Loading gauge for regional trains to go through tunnels in the Blue Mountains
- Adequate safety equipmen for guards to monitor passengers safely alighting or boarding from the R Set trains
- Clearance heights under major bridges for catamaran ferries used on the Sydney CBD – Parramatta route
What has been the outcome of poor specification and selection of tenderers on NSW transport infrastructure under NSW coalition governments?
- Huge, unbelievable cost blow outs
- Massive unbelievable failure to meet of service delivery target dates
Planning for the Future in New England
New England Network (NEN) is proposing that a PPP style of Invitation to Tender be created for re-activating the Great Northern Railway (GNR) line north of Armidale, to become the GNR Freight Artery, connecting Darling Downs and Toowoomba Intermodal Hub south through Wallangarra, Armidale, Werris Creek, Tamworth to a completed part of the Inland Rail at Parkes or Dubbo.
